Our Lady of Pedancino

Cismon del Grappa, Italy (700)

In Cismon del Grappao, on a cloudless spring day, a  mute shepherd was with his sheep when a mysterious  light unexpectedly shone  over the cliff revealing a beautiful image of the Virgin and child, smiling and inviting him closer. He left his sheep behind and ran home screaming of the miracle. He went to the parish priest who heard his voice and decided to follow.

On hearing the news, Bishop of Padova sent experts to  examine the image and to monitor the situation. The  statue was found to be of a style and composition from  an unknown place. In 1748 a flood damaged the church  and houses, sweeping the statue thirty miles away.

The joyful announcement of the return of the statue is celebrated annually on September 5th.
