A shepherd named Agnes encountered a vision of Our Lady as he was tending his sheep by the brook.
She commended him for his devotion and warned of chastisements if people in the town did not repent. He tried to share the events and message of the apparition but no one believed him.
She left the mark of her hand on his cheek as a sign and the entire town believed and began acts of penance. In the third and final apparition a statue was revealed. Upon hearing the news Fernando lll of Castile, visited the village with the Bishop of Burgos, and laid the first stone of the church. On the penultimate Saturday of August, Our Lady of Tresfuentes is honored with a celebratory festival and games.
