Virgin of the Miracle 2

Mazarron, Spain (1585)
The Pilgrimage of Bolnuevo stems from an event that took place in the sixteenth century, on the coast of the Mazarron, at that time besieged by frequent raids of Barbary pirates.
According to reliable witnesses on November 17, 1585 a miracle of the Virgen del Milagro and La Purisima, saved the people from being conquered in a raid carried out by Barbary pirates from North Africa, with permission from the Ottoman Empire, who battled the Spanish Empire for control of the Mediterranean Sea. As is clear from reports and records of eyewitnesses, the Virgin drove out the Turks. The Virgin would become the patron of the town, with a huge devotion to her and commemorating the events every November 17 with a pilgrimage.
