Our Lady of Yalmala

Cuneo, Italy (1834)

On a clear August morning, at sunrise, four young  shepherdesses pushed their herd of cows on the road  that winds up the mountain. That day while they rested,  they witnessed on a stone the figure of a beautiful  woman of about twenty.

She did not speak but looked sad and lovingly at the four girls. They did not  know who she was, maybe  St. Anne, perhaps the Madonna. She disappeared as quickly as she came and the girls ran home.

On the 15th of August, the  feast of the Assumption they returned with a crowd. Nobody saw her but the girls, but all knelt, convinced  that it is the Virgin Mary. The  visions repeated for 50 days and a great monument was  built on the site.
