Our Lady of Villaviciosa
Cordoba, Spain (14th c.)
Legend places the appearance of the image in the Portuguese town of Vila Viciosa de Evora, in the second half of the fourteenth century.
At dawn, the mountain workers dedicated to rebuilding the vineyards in the area heard the sound of a hoe hitting an object underground. In the presence of the ecclesiastical and civil, authorities, they discovered an ancient lead box containing a beautiful image of the Virgin.
Convinced of a miracle, they went solemnly to the village church and then built a small shrine in that vineyard. Her fame spread everywhere and the simple Portuguese shrine was visited by various people and were blessed by many miracles.
