Our Lady of the Rosary of Rio Blanco y Paypaya de JuJuy

Argentina (17th c.)

A tribe threatened the city of Jujuy many times but every time they wanted to approach, there appeared the Lady of the Rosary, wearing her splendid pink dress, light blue cloak and wielding her scepter. Several times the Paypaya tribe sought to raze the town but she again presented herself to them, preventing their passage. The image of the Virgen del Rosario was honored as the Queen and protectress of that town. After this, the Jesuits were able to evangelize the other tribes: Osas, Ojotas, Ocloyas, Toba, Mocovies, Omaguacas and Purmamarcas, until Calchaquies and other races that were besieging the people of Jujuy surrendered their weapons and facilitated the spread of the Gospel.
