Our Lady of the Rosary 4

Naples, Italy (14th c.)

The Church of Maria SS. del Rosario, built in 1830, is located in a farmhouse in Naples. It has one nave and a marble altar along with a statue of Our Lady of the Rosary from the seventeenth century and an earlier wooden crucifix. The community prepares for the celebration of the feast with a rosary novena that begins on October 12 in the church of her namesake. On October 20, the Holy Rosary is followed by a prayer vigil in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary. The townspeople gather on October 21st for a procession of votive altars and features tarantella dance around the village. At night, a wonderful party offers food tasting with typical local dishes. The festa continues with music and dancing and finishes with spectacular fireworks.
