Our Lady of the Rock 2

Fiesole, Italy (1446)

Our Lady of the Rock is commemorated annually on November 25th. Legend says that twin shepherdesses brought the sheep everyday near Fiesole and usually stopped to pray at a small cavern carved into the rock with a statue of Mary and Jesus with two angels. On the feast of the Visitation they were guarding their flock when the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus in her arms appeared to them in a cloud.
She reassured them and told them that she desired a church, and then asked them to alert their father. He went to that place and the Virgin appeared to him and reiterated her request. The inhabitants of the village then saw the Virgin. The ecclesiastical authorities approved te construction of a sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Roc.
