Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
Monte Siao, Brazil (1939)
In 1937 the Bishop asked the pastor of Monte Siao to withdraw the image of Nossa Senhora da Medalha Milagrosa from the altar and send it to a countryside chapel. The absence of the mother was keenly felt by the parish. Between the years 1937 and 1939 Monte Siao was plagued by a severe drought; while it rained in all the other cities of the region. The people associated the lack of rain with the absence of their Patron.
On November 5, 1939, a procession was undertaken on a sunny day carrying the bier with the image of the Patron. On arriving at the entrance of the city the first drops began to fall, followed by a big rain, causing the image itself and its devotees to be drenched. From that day the rain cycle of the place returned to normal.
