Our Lady of Hope 2

Calasparra, Spain (1786) 

 

When a shepherd found an image inside the cave,  authorities arranged to transfer it to one of the churches of the town. 

Miraculously, it became so heavy that it was thought to  be a sign not to move it. 

The miraculous nature of the image is acknowledged  to this day, with hundreds of devotees lining the walls of the chamber attached to the chapel of the Virgin.

Our Lady of Hope is the official patron of Calasparra   since 1840.The Canonical Coronation of the patron was held on September 8, 1996. The festivities in her honor take place on september 7 the feast of the Virgin, and on September 18. An annual transfer of the patron saint to Calasparra  takes place on the first Sunday in May. The village of Calasparra miracles, going to her when drought  threatens crops.
