Mother of God of Philermos
Cetinje, Montenegro (1799)
Believed to have been painted by St. Luke, the icon of Our Lady of Philermos was adopted by the Knights Hospitallers when they took over the island in 1309. They took the image with them to Malta when the Turks drove them out of Rhodes in 1522. When Malta was conquered in 1878, the Knights dispersed and the icon moved to Russia.
