Corpus Christi

Feastday: May 30, 2024

The Feast of Corpus Christi (Ecclesiastical Latin: Dies Sanctissimi Corporis et Sanguinis Domini Iesu Christi, lit.

On the tenth day after Pentecost, Roman Catholics celebrate the institution of the Eucharist. They eat bread and drink wine on this day. The bread refers to Jesus' body, the wine to the blood that Jesus offered for the sake of people's salvation.
The day is celebrated the following Sunday in the Netherlands (Corpus Christi Sunday).
Corpus Christi is actually a celebration of Maundy Thursday again. The difference is that on Corpus Christi the emphasis is much more on the Catholic dogma of the Real Presence of Christ in the guises of bread and wine during and after the celebration of the Eucharist.
