Blessed Virgin of Tresto

Italy (1468)

On September 21, 1468 the Virgin appeared to  Giovanni Zelo, a boatman from Padua Ponso when he was returning home. In  the evening, the man had  stopped to sleep in the boat under the bridge Borini.

Around midnight he was awakened by a woman's voice calling him three times and he saw a beautiful woman who asked him to follow her. They walked out to the countryside in Tresto, and she told Giovanni that she was the Virgin Mary, asking him not to blaspheme and to ensure that in that very place a church be built   according to the design and the measures which she   illustrated. She gave him a knife to pierce the ground and have it flowwith blood to prove to others the vision.

The church was entrusted to a Congregation of Hermits,  of which Giovanni took the habit in the lay state.
