Personal Prayer

Lord Jesus, You came to show us all how God loves us.
You came as a poor man among the poor,
as one giving and not counting the costs.
On the cross You showed the depth of that love.

Lord Jesus, You call me to be close to You
and to live by Your word and example.
I thank You for that grace: I know it is a difficult call
but Your grace is there to strengthen me.

Without Your help how can I always be open-handed to the poor, concerned for the hungry, ready to clothe the naked and shelter the homeless.

Lord Jesus, let me be seen to be generous, merciful and just.
Then as You desire,
I will be able to bring some light into our dark world,
like salt give zest to daily life,
and like a city on a hill be an encouragement
and support for others.
Amen.
